Rector-Commandant of the Military University of Aviation, Brig. Gen. Pil. Piotr Krawczyk, PhD, paid tribute to the victims of the Tu-154M airplane crash of April 10, 2010. This year's celebration was overshadowed by the coronavirus epidemic.

Ten years ago, commanders of all Services of the Armed Forces, leading politicians, social activists, and two presidents – late Mr. Lech Kaczyński and the President of the Republic of Poland in Exile, late Mr. Ryszard Kaczorowski – died near Smolensk with the crew of the aircraft.  On Friday at 8:41 there was a wreath-laying ceremony under the plaque commemorating the Air Force Commander – Rector-Commandant of the “Eaglets School” late Gen. Pil. Andrzej Błasik, and the memory was honored of all the passengers and crew who died on their way to the ceremony commemorating Polish officers brutally murdered in Katyn. A wreath was also laid at the monument of "Heroic Flyers of the Dęblin School of Eaglets" and at the Air Force Museum in Dęblin at a plaque commemorating the victims of the Tu-154M crash.

In 2020, there is is the 10th anniversary of the Tu-154M crash. The crash, near Smolensk, resulted in a tragic death of 96 of our compatriots, the cream of the political elite of our state with President Professor Lech Kaczynski.!  The history repeated itself in a tragic loop when the Polish delegation went to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre and the elite of the Polish army died again in this unique mausoleum of Poles. Today we pay tribute to all those who died -  emphasizes Rector-Commandant of the Military University of Aviation, Brig. Gen. Pil. Piotr Krawczyk, PhD.
